- Introduce yourself...
I grew up in a small town in Montana across from the most beautiful mountain you can imagine! As a child, I had dogs, cats, a guinea pig, various rescued birds, and even a litter of baby mice (until my mom found out)! As I got a little older, I did some traveling, got my degree in Accounting, did a 180° and went into Skin Care, then got married, had two babies, and decided to start a farm! My husband and I have both always been very selective about where our food comes from, but adding kids to the mix made us re-evaluate our food on a whole new level, as well as how we wanted to allocate our time, and live our lives! Even food that is “Certified Organic” can be seriously suspect these days, and if you care about whether or not the animals you are eating had a happy, healthy life...shopping and making dinner starts getting a little more complicated.
Ultimately, we decided to move out of our nice neighborhood in town, to 11 acres in the middle of nowhere to build a different sort of life and raise as much of our own food as possible! We have enjoyed milk from our dairy cow, made our own cheese and yogurt, and have a flock of chickens, that turn our kitchen scraps into beautiful rainbow eggs! And this year we are excited to start gardening on a larger scale than a collection of big pots!
- What is the craziest adventure you have had...
My husband proposed 10 days after our first date! I said Yes! I had no idea the adventure that would follow! I also found out I was pregnant with my son right before we went to Thailand for a month! Hideous morning sickness hit right around the same time as the jet lag! That was an interesting trip. We climbed the 1,237 massive steps to the Tiger Cave temple, rode elephants and snorkeled anyway! I did not, however, try any of the various insect delicacies available at the street fair!
- Who is your biggest source of inspiration...
While we were still living in town, I started watching DaNelle Wolford’s Weed ‘em and Reap Youtube channel, and that was when I first realized that farming could be done on a small scale! We had a tiny garden on the side of the house, but right around that time was when I decided I wanted goats and chickens!
4. In another life where would your dreams have taken you...
When I went into Business Administration and Accounting the plan was to climb the corporate ladder, travel the world, dress really well, and do lots of yoga. I have always loved animals, so of course, I would have had an amazing dog...possibly a cat... but farm animals were not on the horizon!
- What is your dream adventure...
I want to ride a beautiful horse, in a long flowing dress, along a tropical beach! Fast. For a whole day.
- What is your favorite piece of Outback gear?
I LOVE the Heidi Jacket
